Changing lives on the ground: a day in the life of an Oxfam worker

How do we get the poorest and most vulnerable people of Nepal well-prepared for earthquakes? How do we help refugee communities from the Sahara feed their livestock if there’s no water? How does a cash assistance program work?

From sanitation and clean water to getting more girls into school, our teams on the ground are working endlessly to achieve immediate, effective and lasting change for people feeling the daily pain of poverty.

We've asked some of Oxfam's own humanitarian and program staff to share their experiences from places like Iraq, Malawi, Nepal or Honduras, as well as showing how our programs have a clear impact on the communities’ lives.

Watch how a day in their lives is.

Achieving a fairer world without poverty

With more than 10,000 staff and nearly 50,000 interns and volunteers working around the world, we work to end the injustice of poverty. We save, protect and rebuild lives when disaster strikes. We help people build better lives for themselves, and for others.

In 2016-17, we responded to more than 30 emergencies across our world, across conflicts and natural disasters. We worked directly with 19 million people in our programs worldwide and were supported by millions more. And we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy a life free from poverty.
