“Together, we fight inequality to end poverty and injustice.”
Oxfam is a global movement of people who are fighting inequality to end poverty and injustice. Across regions, from the local to the global, we work with people to bring change that lasts.
Our work is grounded in the commitment to the universality of human rights. Driven by diversity and founding our asks in evidence and experience, we take sides against poverty and injustice everywhere. Feminist approaches guide all our analysis, action and interaction.
What we believe
Our vision is a world that is just and sustainable. A world in which people and planet are at the center of just economies. A world in which women and girls live free from gender-based violence and discrimination. Where the climate crisis is contained, and inclusive and accountable governance systems allow for those in power to be held to account.
How we fight inequality to end poverty and injustice
We are working across regions in 85 countries, with thousands of partners and allies, supporting communities to build better lives for themselves, build resilience and protect lives and livelihoods also in times of crisis. Because we want lasting solutions, we fight the inequalities that keep people locked in poverty and injustice - and campaign for genuine, durable change.
How we are organized
In 2021, our global confederation includes 21 member organizations, or affiliates, who contribute their strengths and expertise to Oxfam to help us achieve our shared goals. Find out more about who they are, how they work together, and how the Oxfam International confederation is run.
Our history
In 1995 a group of independent non-governmental organizations formed Oxfam International to share knowledge and resources and combine their efforts in the fight against poverty and injustice. However, Oxfam was born many years before. What does “Oxfam” mean?
Our finances and accountability
How do we spend your money? In 2018-19 we worked directly with 19.5 million people, spending nearly 70 cents of every Euro we received on our humanitarian, development, and campaigning programs worldwide. Here are some facts and figures.
Our commitment to safeguarding
At Oxfam, we are committed to zero tolerance of sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse in our organization. Find out more about the policies and processes we have put in place to protect the people we work with from any form of abuse, exploitation and harm.
