Responding to the attack that took place in Kramatorsk on the evening of Thursday 27 June which resulted in the killing of at least 11 people, including three children, and a continuing search for survivors, Nicola Bay, Organizational Lead for Oxfam’s Ukraine response said:
“Oxfam strongly condemns this attack. Innocent civilians, including children, should not pay the price for this war. Wherever it operates, Oxfam stands against all attacks on civilians or civilian infrastructure, either targeted or through indiscriminate use of force. We strongly urge all warring parties to respect international humanitarian laws and take every possible precaution to avoid loss of civilians lives or injury to civilians.”
Notes to editors
As a result of the escalation of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, Oxfam mobilized to provide vital humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable people affected by the crisis both in Ukraine and those who fled to countries in the region. We are primarily working with 35 local civil society organizations who are already supporting displaced people and the communities that host them. Together we have supported more than 1.2 million people across Ukraine, Poland, Romania, and Moldova.
