Oxfam is supporting a humanitarian response for refugees arriving from Sudan into South Sudan’s Renk and Raban counties in Upper Nile State, and in Chad’s Sila province. 

In response to the UN recently launched Global Humanitarian Overview, estimating some 235 million people across the globe will be in need of life-saving support in 2021, Oxfam and 6 aid agencies said it is vital that they have unhindered access to those most in need and humanitarian appeals are fully funded. 

In the Central African Republic (CAR), a woman is a victim of sexual and gender-based violence almost every hour. For most women overcoming the trauma and moving on is a challenge. Oxfam is supporting them through literacy classes to help them read, write and empower them.

An estimated 28,000 people are affected by a surge in violence in Central African Republic following a recent attack on a camp for internally displaced people in the town of Batangafo.

Oxfam warns of dire situation as 20,000 people are displaced in the city of Bria where humanitarian access is restricted due to the presence of armed groups.

A wave of violence has once again crossed Central African Republic since October 2016. The efforts made by the newly elected authorities need to be sustained and to receive real financial and technical support from the international community.

More than half of the territory is still in the hands of the armed groups despite Faustin Archange Touadera’s inauguration on March 30 2016 on a ticket of ending the violence and guaranteeing protection to Central Africans exhausted after years of conflict. 

Oxfam says the $2.2 billion pledged at Thursday's Brussels donor meeting for Central African Republic needs to be released now if it is to have real impact.

Ahead of an international donor meeting in Brussels on Thursday, Oxfam warns that the people of Central African Republic cannot face another year of the present dire situation which has left half of the 4.8 million population in need of humanitarian assistance. 

The continuing conflict in the Central African Republic has displaced tens of thousands of people both internally within the country and within neighboring states. This fragile state has left many families struggling to meet their basic needs.
